Remember my post from a couple weeks back titled “A new
record?”
The new record I was trying to set was getting one bedroom
in this house completely painted in a week.
That this is even a challenge is due to the fact that (a) I am rarely
able to work an 8 hour day due to childcare responsibilities, and (b) prepping
all the dark molding for painting with deglosser, followed by 4-6 coats of
paint takes a lot of time, and requires multiple days. Rolling and cutting the walls is the easy
part.
Well, for some crazy reason I thought I could do it. At the last moment, I inserted the question
mark at the end of the post title.
The question mark turned out to be appropriate, as I did NOT
set a new record. The bedroom took 2
weeks, not one.
The molding would only take one coat of semi-gloss paint a
day before it rejected further coats. I also lost three days that I couldn’t paint at all, due to
foster care responsibilities, errand running, other household tasks, a three
hour meeting with a dock builder, etc.
I don’t paint on the weekends because Saturday is my only
day with just my family, and after church on Sunday I drive the four hour round
trip to pick up our foster kids from their family visitation.
So no record was set.
The room, however, is done, and I would like to share the results. 🙂
Here is what it looked like before:
Please excuse the kitchen table, my husband works from home and has been using this as his office while we're here. This furniture will not be staying in the room.
It's hard to tell from these photos, but the walls were a flat avocado-y, greenish-yellow color.
The second color on the strip ("treasure") is what the room is painted now, a light, bright green color.
And here is the after! I love it; it came out just as I'd hoped.
Here is the daybed (and trundle) that - thankfully - we found the missing bolts for.
I want to finish painting the house before I begin with the details of furnishing and setting it up. But having the beds set up means friends can visit while the house is in process.
Things are starting to brighten up around here!

I'll "rest" while you paint....
